Much loved and still greatly missed even after 40+ years(!), the Virginia Reel was a major feature at the entrance to the park between 1923 and 1982.
Its footprint covered the area of the present Globe theatre
It truly was a white knuckle experience, as those of us who were lucky enough to ride it can remember!
Gary Radice's excellent website 'The Magic Eye' hosted by Joyland Books here;
https://www.joylandbooks.com/themagiceye/articles/endofthereel.htm
has an wonderful article about its inventor and how it was named, as well as details of the running, maintenance and eventual sad demise of this venerated ride
The video clip below from The Internet Archive / Wayback machine shows the Virginia Reel in action at Coney Island, Brooklyn in 1953.
The film may well have been intentionally speeded up, but the intimidating nature of the ride is quite clear from the footage!
Seen from above (the narrator is speaking as the Wonder Wheel) It is worth noting how open the ride was and also that it ascended on the left, and entered the station from the right - the reverse of our Blackpool example!
